Our instrumentation and controls engineers assist in the design, development, and testing of innovative prototypes and manufacturing systems, pushing beyond current technological limitations. Opportunities abound for Lynntech's instrumentation and controls engineers in projects ranging from developing experimental test stands to first-of-their-kind prototypes to manufacturing systems. Our instrumentation and controls engineers are commonly engaged in the following activities:

  • Contribute to concept generation and problem solving in brainstorming sessions with talented and experienced innovators.
  • Design and develop prototypes and test stands to support emerging technologies utilizing state-of-the-art hardware components and systems.
  • Determine and define measurement and control system requirements.
  • Read and generate pipe and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and electrical schematics.
  • Specify sensors with the appropriate accuracy, sensitivity, resolution, and response time.
  • Design, develop, and validate data acquisition and feedback control systems using various sensors, hardware, and the NI LabVIEW application development environment.
  • Conduct statistical analysis on sensor measurements to quantify confidence intervals.
  • Test and troubleshoot these prototypes and processes and monitor outcomes with a critical eye for improvement.
  • Analyze empirical data to determine trends in order to make design recommendations.
  • Contribute valued feedback regarding the design and performance of prototypes and manufacturing systems.

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline


The following attributes are valued in an applicant, although passion for the work and the ability to learn and grow are the foremost requirement:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline or 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in basic NI LabVIEW programming. Preferred experience with state machines, Queued Message Handler, and LabVIEW Real-Time and FPGA VI development.
  • Preferred experience with a variety of NI data acquisition and process control hardware including cDAQ, cRIO, and sbRIO.
  • Fundamental understanding and experience with a variety of sensor types including pressure transducers, strain gauges, load cells, RTDs, thermocouples, proximity probes, LVDTs, accelerometers, mass flow meters, etc.
  • Experience with DMMs and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience and/or coursework in statistical analysis, uncertainty, and error propagation.
  • Experience and/or coursework in system modeling, system identification, and design of feedback control systems.
  • Must be well-rounded. Capable of understanding the big picture application of the overall system as well as the minor details.
  • Proven creative and hands-on skills in design, repair, or improvement of mechanical or manufacturing devices or systems
  • Strong self-starter who can work autonomously
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented environment
  • Capable of prioritizing and balancing competing project demands and conflicting project requirements
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and a team player
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
